The web pages crawled by GPTBot are filtered to exclude sources that require paywall access, are known to gather personally identifiable information (PII), or contain text that violates OpenAI’s policies.

The intention behind GPTBot is to use sources that are freely available, comply with OpenAI’s guidelines, and do not collect any personal information from users. By allowing GPTBot to access their sites, publishers contribute data to OpenAI’s existing and future models, potentially improving the accuracy and capabilities of AI chatbots.

However, concerns regarding privacy and security may arise. OpenAI has addressed this by providing an option for publishers to opt out of the process. They can disallow GPTBot from accessing their site by adding the following line to their site’s robots.txt file: `User-agent: GPTBot Disallow: /`. ChatGPT Unveils Updates: Multi-File Analysis, Custom Instructions, and GPT-4 Default Model

OpenAI has announced a series of updates to its ChatGPT model, aimed at improving user experience and expanding the model’s capabilities. These updates seem to align with the features offered by its emerging competitor, Claude.

The updates, detailed in the release notes published on August 3, 2023, include new features such as prompt examples, suggested replies, and the ability to analyze data across multiple files. The latter feature, in particular, appears to be a response to Claude’s proficiency in handling multiple files.

The prompt examples feature aims to make initiating a conversation with ChatGPT less daunting for users. At the start of a new chat, users will now see examples to help them get started. The suggested replies feature, on the other hand, offers users relevant ways to continue their conversation with the model.

In a significant update, ChatGPT will now default to the GPT-4 model for Plus users, remembering the previously selected model and eliminating the need to default back to GPT-3.5. Plus users will also be able to ask ChatGPT to analyze data and generate insights across multiple files, a feature available with the Code Interpreter beta. This multi-file analysis feature is noteworthy as it mirrors Claude’s well-regarded functionality in this area.

The release notes also mentioned the introduction of the ChatGPT app for Android, which became available for download in the United States, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil on July 25, 2023. OpenAI plans to expand the rollout to additional countries in the following weeks.

On July 20, 2023, OpenAI began rolling out custom instructions in beta, a feature that gives users more control over ChatGPT’s responses. Once set, these preferences will guide future conversations. The feature is currently available to all Plus users and will be expanded to all users in the coming weeks.

OpenAI also announced that it was doubling the number of messages ChatGPT Plus customers can send with GPT-4. As of July 19, 2023, the new message limit will be 50 every three hours.

World’s Largest Law Firm Dentons to Launch fleetAI, Proprietary Version of ChatGPT

Dentons, the world’s largest global law firm, has announced plans to launch a proprietary version of ChatGPT, named “fleetAI,” that will enable its lawyers to apply generative artificial intelligence (AI) to active client matters. The announcement was made in London and the tool is set to launch in August 2023.

The system includes a chatbot based on OpenAI’s GPT-4 Large Language Model, allowing lawyers to conduct legal research, generate legal content, and identify relevant legal arguments. A second bot within fleetAI will enable the uploading of multiple legal documents for key data extraction, including clauses and obligations, for analysis and querying.

Dentons has collaborated with Microsoft to ensure that all data uploaded into fleetAI is not used to train the model, cannot be accessed by anyone outside of Dentons, and is erased after 30 days. Following the August 2023 launch, there will be a 6-week beta testing period, after which practice group leaders will review feedback and produce practice-specific usage guidance.

Future versions of fleetAI are already in development, including integration with Dentons’ existing legal robots that automate data extraction from Companies House and analyze clients’ employment tribunal claims to predict future outcomes. Other instances under development include a knowledge chatbot and a Business Services chatbot for internal policies.

Paul Jarvis, UK, Ireland, and Middle East CEO of Dentons, emphasized the transformative potential of the tool, stating, “The ability to upload and analyse client matter documents at speed and in a secure manner is the real game-changer – we believe Dentons will be the first law firm that has the technology to systematically incorporate generative AI into our day-to-day matter workflows.” He further added, “The use cases for fleetAI have been identified and tested with clients during the development phase and we are confident this is going to fundamentally transform the way we deliver services to them.”

The launch of fleetAI represents a significant step in the integration of AI into the legal industry, particularly in the area of document analysis and legal research. Worldcoin Protocol Undergoes Comprehensive Security Audits

Worldcoin, a blockchain-based protocol that integrates both off-chain and on-chain components, a proof of humanity protocol co-founded by Sam Altman of OpenAI, recently underwent two separate security audits. The audits were conducted by Nethermind and Least Authority, two reputable audit firms, beginning in April 2023. The protocol’s implementation, which includes its use of cryptographic constructs and smart contracts, is detailed in the Worldcoin whitepaper.

Worldcoin publicly launched on July 25, 2023, with the token WLD listed on mainstream crypto exchanges including Binance and Okex. However, the launch was met with immediate criticism. The French data protection agency, CNIL, questioned the legality of Worldcoin. The United Kingdom’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) considered investigating the project for potential violations of the country’s data protection laws. 

The audits covered a wide range of areas, including the correctness of the implementation, potential implementation errors, adversarial actions, secure key storage, resistance to DDoS attacks, vulnerabilities in the code, protection against malicious attacks, performance issues, data privacy, and inappropriate permissions.

Nethermind focused on the protocol’s smart contracts, which include the World ID contracts, the World ID state bridge, the World ID example airdrop contracts, the Worldcoin tokens (WLD) grants contracts, and the WLD ERC-20 token contract and its associated vesting wallet. Out of the 26 items identified during this security assessment, 24 (92.6%) were fixed after the verification stage, one was mitigated, and the remaining one was acknowledged.

Least Authority, on the other hand, concentrated on the protocol’s use of cryptography, including its use of the Semaphore protocol and the enhancements made to scale the protocol in a more gas-efficient manner. These include the protocol’s cryptographic design and implementation, the Rust implementation of the semaphore protocol, and the Go implementation of the Semaphore Merkle Tree Batcher (SMTB). The team identified three issues and offered six suggestions, all of which have either been resolved or have planned resolutions.

In their report, Least Authority stated, “We found that the cryptographic component of the Worldcoin Protocol is generally well-designed and implemented.”

Some of the items identified during the audits were due to the protocol’s dependencies on Semaphore and Ethereum, such as elliptic curve precompile support or Poseidon hash function configuration.
