AC Milan Collaborates with MonkeyLeague to Debut e-Soccer Game

Italian soccer champion AC Milan becomes the first soccer club to partner with Web3-based NFT soccer gaming platform MonkeyLeague.

The game features teams of at least 6 NFT MonkeyLeague players competing against real players. Rewards are based on league performance and players are rewarded with the digital currency MonkeyBucks ($MBS).

According to the news report, the collaboration will allow MonkeyLeague to achieve its aim of bridging the gap between Web2 and Web3 world while also allowing fans and supporters of AC Milan around the globe to have new digital experiences, bringing them closer to the club they love.

The game will benefit from the biggest stars of the Italian champion, who will make suggestions to improve the game to make it as accurate and attractive as possible for the players. In the future, AC Milan will also organize sports tournaments that will bring together the best players in the game from around the world, and big prizes await the winners.

“We are particularly proud to be the first football club to partner with MonkeyLeague, bringing the game to our fans around the world and offering them an innovative new way to interact with their favourite team,” said AC Milan’s Chief Revenue Officer.

AC Milan’s Involvement In Crypto

AC Milan’s collaboration with MonkeyLeague isn’t the soccer club’s first foray into cryptocurrency. The club debuted its NFT campaign in 2021 with Chiliz, which ensures fans are rewarded with the AC Milan Token ($ACM) through the Socios.com rewards program. 

Crypto giant Binance also made an announcement to list the $ACM one month after the token was launched. Binance offered a 25% discount to customers prior to the token’s trading at the time.

In July, AC Milan partnered with Sorare’s NFT-based football game, modeling similar moves from other sports clubs like SL Benfica. According to the club, the new partnership is an important development to improve its Web3 development.

AC Milan and BitMEX have come together to announce a multi-year partnership that will see BitMEX’s logo on the sleeve of the Rossoneri.

Seven-time UEFA Champions League winner AC Milan has struck a multi-year partnership with BitMex to become their first-ever official sleeve partner as well as their official cryptocurrency trading partner, according to a club announcement.

The logo will officially debut in an away match against UC Sampdoria on August 23, 2021, for their first match of the Serie A season. The logo will make its home debut in front of the fans at the historic San Siro on August 29, 2021, in match week 2 against Cagliari.

The BitMEX logo will feature not only on the sleeve of the men’s team, but the women’s and eSports’ team as well, in all home and away kits and in every competition during the season. AC Milan is a historic club with lots of history who gets lots of viewership every match. Earlier this year, a match against hometown rivals Inter Milan got over 2.2 million live viewers. That is a lot of eyeballs that are going to be looking at the BitMEX logo and potentially venturing into the Bitcoin space for the first time.

One interesting thing to note in the announcement, AC Milan stated that they are happy to work with BitMEX because of their goals of reshaping the “modern digital financial system into one that is more inclusive and empowering.” The monstrous club recognizing that BitMEX is working on Bitcoin — an open and inclusive monetary system with no intermediary that can tell anyone they can’t participate — is huge. The club also went on to say: “AC Milan and BitMEX will focus on innovation, progress, and inclusion as central pillars in the activation of this partnership.”

This isn’t the first time a European football club has completed a partnership with a Bitcoin-related company. As we’ve already seen in England with Watford and Southampton, advertising Bitcoin seems to be the new wave.

The Italian club’s current squad will appear in tokenized form on digital trading cards. Sorare players can trade the cards on a marketplace and use them to compete in tournaments. They come in three levels of scarcity: unique (1 per season), super rare (10 per season), and rare (100 per season). 


The game leverages NFT technology on Ethereum. As the trading cards live on the blockchain, each one is provably scarce and can be attributed to an owner. Sorare has arguably been the market leader in the sports world of the NFT space, alongside the basketball-oriented game NBA Topshot. During a year of explosive growth for NFTs, Sorare has benefited from the technology going mainstream. In February, the game raised $50 million in a funding round, receiving contributions from Antoine Griezmann and Rio Ferdinand. Barcelona’s Gerard Piqué also invested in the game in December.

AC Milan Moves On-Chain 

AC Milan is moving onto the blockchain. 

The legendary soccer club has partnered with the tokenized sports exchange Chiliz to release a fan token. 

ACM will be available via Socios.com, a social platform powered by Chiliz. Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO and founder of Chiliz and Socios.com, said in an announcement post


“The AC Milan partnership is a great start to a year in which we will work harder than ever on our mission to fully establish fan tokens as the ultimate fan engagement tool and as a powerful new revenue generator for the sports industry.”

AC Milan also took to Twitter to share the news.


Owners of ACM will have a say in key decisions affecting the club via polls. They’ll also gain access to VIP rewards, promotions, and other unique experiences. 


Fan tokens are a nascent innovation that leverages the power of blockchain to engage with an audience.

Several popular musicians have also embraced the technology in recent months, and Chiliz has already launched tokens for several major soccer clubs, including FC Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and AS Roma. The Socios app has received 450,000 downloads, and over 14 million tokens have been sold. The leading cryptocurrency exchange Binance has listed many of the Chiliz tokens for trading. 

The Italian club has won the Champions League trophy seven times, and it has an estimated fanbase of 450 million. 

The ACM token will be available on Socios.com “in the coming weeks,” according to the announcement post.
